The Beautiful Extraordinary (Senior Thesis)

Artist Statement Transforming my subjects into something extraordinary and beautiful allows me to convey a deeper connection between the subject and I. Refined lighting and composition allow me to make something that is not just a simple portrait. I think of light as a tool because of the way it transforms the ordinary. The people I choose to photograph are unique individuals that I have photographed in a familiar environment. Placing a subject in a location where they are comfortable puts the subject at ease and allows the audience to witness authenticity and vulnerability. The environment shapes and reflects the individual's personality and story while using light to turn this narrative into something captivating.
